I would like to report a translation error or typo in the English Tafsir Ibn Kathir for Surah Yusuf (12:43-44).
The Issue:
The current text reads:
"They said, had your dream been a vision rather than a mixed up false dream, we would not have known its interpretation."
Why it is incorrect:
The word "not" appears to be a mistake. The context of the verse is that the chiefs are claiming expertise in interpreting true visions, but are dismissing the King's dream as merely confused nightmares. The current translation implies that they would be ignorant even if it were a clear vision, which contradicts their claim to knowledge.
Suggested Correction:
It should read:
"...we would have known its interpretation."
(Or: "we would not have been ignorant of its interpretation.")
